Tallinn is the capital city of Estonia. It is located on Estonia's north coast to the Baltic Sea, 80 kilometres south of Helsinki. Estonia is one of the smallest member states of the European Union, both in terms of population and territory.
400,000 people live in Tallinn, slightly over half of them ethnic Estonians. Tallinn is by far the biggest city in Estonia. Estonia's total population is just 1.4 million.
Tallinn was chosen to be the Culture Capital of Europe during the year 2011 when on 28th of March 2006 the Estonian Ministry of Culture decided to name Tallinn the European Capital of Culture 2011.
